Mother Blessing Ceremony
A Mother Blessing is a beautiful ceremony that fills the heart of the mother with love. She is at the centre of this experience and is held by those she has chosen to be there. This is a time we can honour the transitioning and journeying that is unfolding for her in a meaningful way.
Holding a Mother Blessing is an ancient tradition in many different cultures. The way in which a woman chooses to hold a ceremony is unique to her and there are many different rituals which can be incorporated into this experience.
Elements that should be considered in the initial planning would be:
Who? - who would you invite to support this precious experience? Family members, friends. Usually this is an all female ceremony but this can be whoever you feel you would like to be there.
When? - when would this feel right for you? At what point in your pregnancy do you feel this would be nurturing?
Where? - do you want to hold this ceremony in your home? or would you feel more at ease in a different space? I will prepare whichever space you choose for your ceremony by creating a beautiful centre focus for us to sit around. I will also provide some cacao, rose tea or another ceremonial herbal drink. I endeavour to bring softness and comfort to the space so everyone involved can relax and enjoy the ceremony.
The ‘What?’ and ‘How?’ can be discussed during our one to one planning session.
These are some of the suggestions I can make but there are other options to choose from.
Ceremony - I can offer to include some elements of ceremony in this time if you wish for them to be included. Taking some time to connect with a sense of gratitude, intention and reciprocity. Taking a moment to honour and connect with aspects of the wheel of the year and the elements.
Red Thread Connection - I can offer a connecting thread ritual, where a continuous thread is passed from person to person around the circle, wrapping each wrist as it is passed, joining us all and symbolising the red thread of our ancestors and those to come. Each person can then tie a piece of this thread around their wrist to symbolise a sense of holding until the woman has birthed her baby.
Foot Bath - Including water as an element as part of a Mother Blessing Ceremony is a beautiful way to acknowledge the feminine connection to healing, cleansing and purification. It is a way to let the energy of emotion flow. A ritualistic foot bath can be a beautiful way to honour the woman and her transitioning. Each person adding something nurturing to the bath with intention.
Clay sculptures - These can be created by those attending the ceremony as a creative offering for you to include in your birth space. This can be free flow or more led depending on the levels of confidence.
Massage - Using massage is a very beautiful way to connect and help you to feel physically supported by your community.
Singing - I can offer to teach a simple song that we can learn together and then share.
Fire - if your environment is suitable, I can provide a fire pit and wood for a ceremonial fire.
Messages of good will - each participant can write a message on a piece of cloth and these can be stitched to make bunting or use to tie to a tree of your choice. These can be messages of support and love to help to remember how much you are loved and supported.
