Closing The Bones: Robozo Massage and Ceremony

Closing The Bones' is a beautiful ceremony, honouring women's bodies after birthing. It can be held at anytime after the birth, days, weeks, months or even years. It's a gentle and nourishing ritual, supporting and comforting women, giving space to reflect on the unfolding journey.

The ceremony can also be a supportive and gentle experience for those who may have experienced loss.

What The Ceremony holds:

An initial consultation focussing on your thoughts and feelings around your ceremony. A time for us to consider the uniquenesses of your birthing experience and how best to support you during the ceremony.

The ceremony itself can be held at your home, provided a quiet space can be made. Your baby can be with you in the space or be cared for by someone. It is often good to have someone on hand if baby is finding it hard to settle. Often mothers choose to take this time to honour themselves without their baby in the space.

Alternatively, your ceremony can take place in my studio. It is a warm and cosy space, away from the main house and very private.

The ceremony might include creating a ‘shrine’ for yourself. I have objects for you to choose from or you can bring your own. This can be a lovely way to consider what you wish to honour during the ceremony.

We would explore some of the postnatal aromatherapy oils which feel right for you and we would use these during the ceremony.

I would provide an aromatherapy and herbal bath for bathing your feet, allowing time to settle into the space and prepare for your ceremony.

I would then invite you to lie down on the prepared space and spend time initially massaging with oil. This can be face, hands, abdomen, feet, which ever areas you would like massaged. The abdomen is usually a focus for this but this is optional.

The next stage of the ceremony includes taking time for rocking and wrapping different parts of your body using the robozo scarfs.

I would then wrap your full body and watch over you as you drop into your space and the experience.

The slow and gentle unfolding then takes place, allowing space for this to physically and emotionally unfold for you.

Time for a nourishing herbal tea and some nuts and chocolate. A chance to share or just take some time to be peaceful.

I also offer the use of my Mothering Deck of cards if you want to see what they have to offer you.

I will also provide a small bottle of massage oil, made from the oils you have chosen, for you to take home.
