Birth Preparation

‘What is needed for pregnant women and new mothers is for others to really take time to listen to them so they can listen to themselves.’  - Francess Freedman

Initially, I suggest we meet for a chat, free of charge with no obligations. This will help you to decide if my support is what you are looking for.

I offer two meetings, up to two hours, leading up to the birth which will help to support your understanding of the physiological process and consideration will be given to your options and birth preferences. These sessions are to give some time and thought to your desires and expectations for your birthing experience. If you have other children, it would be good to arrange a separate meeting, a walk or a visit to your home, so they can become familiar with me.

If you feel you would like more time for birth preparation, we can arrange additional sessions.

First meeting would include:

Any previous birth experiences you wish to share, taking time to acknowledge and explore your feelings and emotions.

Any other experiences or challenges you feel might impact on your birthing experience, either positive and also those that may have proved difficult, if you wish to share.

Explore physiological birth, the role of the birthing hormones and intuitive behavior and how you can harness the positive impacts these have on your birth journey. The external physical space you wish to create for yourself and how this can support your birth journey as it unfolds. Your intuition and how you connect with this. Explore how you can release yourself to become uninhibited as the wild landscape of your birth journey unfolds for you.

Exploring your wishes for postnatal journey, How you can support yourself and your baby during this transitioning, this time of falling in love, of healing, of resting. A time where time is not relevant, a time when routine and pressures should be left at the door. A time when your support network rally to hold you so you can feel into these precious early days.

Information and signposting to support breast feeding. Nutrition information to support yourself during this time.

Highlight any specific techniques and tools you have explored already or wish to explore, that we could share during the next session.

I will offer you the opportunity to borrow any of my pregnancy and birth books that might interest you, birthing ball and robozo scalf, TENs machine.

Second meeting might include:

What you would like this birthing experience to hold.

Use resources to consider aspects of birth to help inform your birth preference and explore some of the birthing options that you might be interested in.

What your partner is comfortable with and how they wish to support you.

Establish our different roles in supporting you during the birth.

Establish my role in supporting you in your journey.

Discuss any what ifs….

Explore some of the medical interventions, caesarean and induction/augmentation.

Explore the medical pain relief that is available.

Natural alternatives that you can consider to support your birth and pain management, including massage, breathing and position techniques.

I can show you some robozo scalf techniques which might be useful for preganacy and birth.
